Biography

-Full name= John Sydney McCain III

• Born on August 29, 1936 in Panama Canal Zone
• Both his father and grandfather were in the Navy. He joined the Navy to keep up the tradition
• Graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in 1958 to train as a Naval pilot
• Was shot down in Northern Vietnamese capital of Hanoi. Vietnamese offered to realease him, but he refused
• Spent five and a half years in solitary confinement and various prison camps (was beaten in said camps)
• Spent 9 months in rehabilitation. The results showed that McCain still had signs of trauma, so the Navy appointed him as the liason to the U.S. Senate (1977), which was his first introduction to politics
• In 1980, McCain and his second wife moved to Phoneix, Arizona to make political connections. 2 years later, he won the seat in the House of Representatives as Senator of Arizona (current job) due to his renowned warfare record
